Q & A
Got questions about roller skating and how we operate?

ROLLER SKATES & GEAR
-
Do I need my own roller skates for lessons? Preferably yes so you can practice outside of lessons. However, we can provide hire skates if required.
-
Can I hire skates for roller discos? Yes!
-
Can Twin City Skate assist with the purchase of skates? Yes. We are an authorised Impala Skate stockist. Check out our online store! We can assist with correct fitting. If you are looking to upgrade to artistic roller skates we can also assist with the fitting and purchase of Edea boots and Roll-Line hardware from our Australian stockist.
-
Do I need protective gear for classes? Protective gear is not mandatory, but can be worn if desired.
-
What should I wear to lessons? Comfortable, close fitting active wear is perfect for skating. Several light layers to take off and put back on are ideal for colder weather.
-
How do I measure my feet? Please see the foot measuring guide.
-
How should my skates fit my feet? Skates should fit similarly to a sock. They should be snug, but not uncomfortable. For Impala roller skates, we recommend going up a size from your US shoe size, two sizes if you have wide feet.
-
My child needs new skates. How do I know if they are an appropriate size for their growing feet? Children can wear skates that are between 10-20mm longer than their current foot length to accommodate for their growing feet.
-
My skates hurt my feet. What should I do? If you are experiencing pain during or after skating it is possible that your skates are not the correct fit. Your feet will work very hard when roller skating. Good foot care is vital to keep your feet in their best condition so you can continue skating for as long as you like.
-
Why do you recommend Impala Roller Skates? Impalas are the best entry level roller skate on the market at an affordable price. They are suitable for both indoor and outdoor skating. The boot is sufficiently supportive, and trucks sufficiently adjustable for control and responsiveness of the skate. Moxis are also good option at a higher price point. We do not recommend other recreational roller skates as they adversely affect skaters ability to develop requisite skills.
-
Can I participate using roller blades? Yes. We can accommodate blades but it is not our area of expertise. Skaters will be limited in the ability to learn some artistic roller skating skills.
