Learn to Skate
Learning to roller skate is a fun and safe activity that can lead to skaters enjoying the sport recreationally, or developing their skills to a point where they can be competitive in a variety of roller sports - from artistic skating to roller hockey and speed skating, or roller derby. As you progress in confidence and ability, we will support you in progressing to the exciting and athletic discipline of artistic roller skating.
Twin City Skate offers Learn to Skate classes that are aligned with SkateAUSTRALIA's official 'SkateStars' program - a progressive and comprehensive four-level curriculum designed to cater for all roller sports.
Our Beginners classes are designed for skaters to start as absolute beginners, or those with limited skating skill. We will teach you all the basics you need to balance, roll, stop, fall safely, and eventually, not fall anywhere near as often! Lessons are progressive, so it is best not to miss the start of term.

As your skills progress you will move to the Advanced class where you can continue your learn to skate journey. These classes will also suit the confident recreational skater looking for a refresher course or who have not previously participated in any formal classes. Please see course descriptions for requisite skills on our Bookings page.

Artistic Roller Skating
Artistic roller skating is a dynamic roller sport that combines strength and skill with elegance and grace. It is similar to the Olympic sport of figure skating, but as it is performed on roller skates, it allows skaters more flexibility in the skills they can perform. It is also a more accessible sport than ice skating as it can be practised on wooden floors, such as indoor basketball courts.
Twin City Skate offers artistic skating classes to skaters from 8 years onwards who have completed Learn to Skate Level 4. We provide dedicated classes for both competitive and non-competitive skaters in the discipline of Free Skating, and classes for Figures and Compulsory Solo Dance.

At Twin City Skate, skaters can be supported on their competitive journey in various disciplines of the sport, and non-competitive skaters are given the opportunity to enjoy the freedom of roller skating and learning new things, and want to work towards becoming “great roller skaters”.

Please note:
Our artistic classes are divided into ability levels based on the SkateNSW 'Rising Stars' Development Program which is divided into five levels for Free Skating. Each level requires participants to attempt a set number of skills. Please see required elements for each class on our Bookings page.

Mums/Dads & Bubs Skatetime
Parents and Carers
Infants, Toddlers & Preschool-aged children
Mums/Dads and Bubs Skatetime is a class specifically designed to cater for parents and carers of infants, toddlers and preschool aged children. This class will provide a flexible and supportive environment where adults and children can skate, prams can be pushed, and non-skating children supervised by qualified educational professionals.
Like all our classes, this class will be based upon SkateAUSTRALIA curriculum with skating experiences tailored specifically to meet the diverse needs of mums, dads, carers and children in the group.
As a skating mum of three little boys, Bec understands the challenges of making space in your life to skate together when you have little ones to care for. She believes that all people should have opportunities to skate in the ways that they want to and is passionate about helping people work towards their skating goals.
Dance Jam Roller Dance^
Ever pictured yourself as Olivia Newton-John in 'Xanadu'? Patrick Swayze in 'Skatetown, USA'? Jessica Simpson in 'A Public Affair' or Pink in 'Never Gonna Not Dance Again'? Then get your skates on and come dance!
In 1970s America the popular rise of both disco and roller skating coincided to create one of the most funky ways to get fit and have fun. Roller disco is the place where music, dance, skating, soul and fashion meet and thrive. Our Dance Jam Roller Dance classes will teach you the basics of roller disco dance, and progress through to more advanced moves for capable skaters.
If you:
- can skate forwards with confidence
- don't fall too frequently
- love to skate
- love to dance
Then our Dance Jam Roller Dance classes are made for you!
