Service Description
Suitable for beginning skaters aged 13 to adults. Our classes are based on the Skate Australia SkateStars curriculum which contains four levels of progressive skill development. Skaters in this class will be taught elements in Level 0, 1 and 2. See course structure below: Skate Australia SkateStars Course Structure: Level 0-1 Skates - how to fit them correctly Safety Equipment - what to wear Falling - how to fall safely Recovery - how to get up after a fall Ready Position - Posture for skating Basic Balance - on each skate Marching - first steps on skates Rolling - moving along with balance Stopping - how to stop safely with toe stops/brake stop Rolling - moving along with balance on one skate T-position start and stop Forward scissors or bubbles Low space movement - crouch Basic jumping - forward two-foot jump Level 2 Gliding Advanced stopping Forward crossovers Beginning backward skating Turning to backwards Low space movement - shoot the duck and cabbage Half revolution two-foot jumps Learning to roller skate is a fun and safe activity that can lead to skaters enjoying the sport recreationally, or developing their skills to a point where they can be competitive in a variety of roller sports - from artistic skating to roller hockey and speed skating, or roller derby. As you progress in confidence and ability, we will support you in progressing to the exciting and athletic discipline of artistic roller skating. COSTS: Lessons: Term fee $185 incl.GST (9 lessons - please see the schedule on 'Registration and Schedule' page) Additionally, SkateNSW Membership (CAT4) is MANDATORY for insurance purposes: $44/calendar year (please see instructions on 'Our Classes' page)
